Single mom here since my son was born 15 years ago. I’ve worked my tail off. Often two jobs since my role as an educator pays so poorly. They will also be punishing single moms with a lower tax credit or possibly none. Why don’t they increases taxes on the dads that refuse to pay child support. This is insane.
What they don’t realize that many of us (I’m 70) still work fulltime and juggle caring for grandchildren to help out our children already.
It’s unlikely the people who are considering retirement are capable of replacing the menial labour jobs that the immigrants currently do.
Imagine a 70 year old picking strawberries for 10-12 hours a day during harvest or a 75 year old man suddenly picking up a hammer and working construction. Will they be ditch-digging? Climbing scaffolding?
Honestly I don’t know who the rumpelon’s are who come up with these ridiculous ideas!
I am working! I’m an 82 year old widow who has to work as a cashier at a local grocery store to cover all my bills. My share of my dental bills last year(2024) was over $3000. And I have dental insurance. It’s just ridiculous and disgusting!
I used to work as a grocery store cashier. I think it was my favorite job. I got to meet so many people. I'm hopeful you can share your story when you call Congress to demand there be no cuts to programs. Find any town halls near you?
I think UK have similar ideas, raising retirement age yet again…they are hoping we will all die at work!
No way could most folks work at 70 because of their actual job and diminishing health.
Why can the FEW involved in implementing these stupid fuc*ing new laws ACTUALLY try a job and ASK workers how they would do same tasks at 70 as those at 50???
I'm not interested in living in a country where the people who run it sit around in their ivory tower thinking up new more cruel ways to hurt us. This is NOT my idea of “America” and I truly don't want to live here now 🫤
What a plan that is. I am a 68 yr old woman who moved from fla to Ohio. I worked in fla (an area almost exclusively retired people) and have been searching in Ohio in my area. I have so many applications in and not one call. I am a 68 yr old woman who moved- the definition of DEI. I can’t seem to find a job, no one wants to hire me.
67 here. I had ZERO callbacks. I'm a retired teacher, technology skills, people skills, etc. So, I made a simple one-page resume, left off dates for college (masters degree) and for when I worked places. They arithmetic resume in hand, I went around to about 20 different businesses and asked for a manager, introduced myself to them as I handed them my resume, told them I'd applied online and was in the system, that I was high energy, reliable, and freat with customers, and that I was available for immediate hire. It took about 20 places, but I found a manager who had had to fire someone the day before and had seen my profile on the company portal. He interviewed my right then, and I started the following Monday. Had I not met him in person to see that I wasnt ancuent and could do the work, that 30-something manager would have passed on me, too, as I'm sure the others did. It really worked. Dont depend just on applying. Let them see your smile and your energy, and that you got this. One advantage for our demographic - our work ethics and reliability. Now, I've changed my boss's mind about hiring older workers!l, and he's so glad he "took a chance" on me.
Good luck in your search. I hope you find something soon.
I'll be 68 this year, I'm on Soc. Sec. and Medicare. I also have a small pension. After being retired for a couple of years, I ALREADY HAD TO GO BACK TO WORK! They are so out of touch and so blinded by GREED, it's unreal.
Let us not forget every requirement like “work requirements” requires oversight and administration. Meaning: the program just got more expensive as the number of people required to verify “work search” or employment documentation is added, and the issues that some less able will have keeping up with the demands for documentation mean more people who qualify will lose benefits because they miss some deadline then have to re apply all over. The increased churn and expense and workload mean the whole thing works less well and then the “Well the expense of this program is just ballooning for inexplicable reasons and fewer people seem to be using it can’t we just abolish the whole stupid thing?” This is the play, every time.
Many have no choice they have to work or end up on the streets. Spoke to one senior who was living in her car and she had to keep up with the payments just to have somewhere to sleep. 😖

This is incredibly upsetting. I'm so sorry to hear. I'm hopeful we can turn this country around and help you enjoy your life.
Thank, this far, I enjoy my work but I’m very concerned about where “that guy” is leading our country.

This is just sick. Thanks to these guys millions of dollars of food from USAID will just rot, but we can’t afford to give food to those in need.

‘Cos they are pric*s
the problem is that some folks can’t even find a job.
I’m a single mom & they keep trying to get me resign because we have a weird new Nazi boss.
You should write a bit more about this. I’d be interested to read it and so would lots more people.
Hell, no! We won’t go! We elders have already done our time and we love retirement.

So the far right republicans want women to stay home and have babies, but now they have to work too.

I'm so sorry, Maureen 😢😢😢
