Why subscribe to A Paycheck Away?

A Paycheck Away with Salaam Bhatti is a journey towards ending poverty by learning about issues, exploring solutions, and ways you can act. This type of information is not available in mainstream media, and the bite-size samples you see on social media are typically misinformation. That is why I will not put my content up behind a paywall. You can subscribe for free or chip in $5/month for a cup of coffee to fuel my writing sessions.

So why become a paid subscriber at all? I invite you to become a paid subscriber if the following two apply to you:

  1. You have the means to do so, and

  2. You want to fuel a path toward ending poverty through advocacy and action.

Did you know that all the welfare programs have different eligibility formulas? Each Congress creates complexities with these programs, which ultimately make it much more difficult for households with low income to apply for and/or remain on these programs and get out of poverty. And so, poverty has become the Gordian Knot of our time.

Why am I doing this? I lived in poverty for nearly a decade and have been an advocate in the public benefits world for over seven years. I’ve learned that America's safety net is a mess…but more importantly, it doesn't have to be. We can make it stronger and more efficient. The situation is dire because at least 1 out of 3 of us live paycheck to paycheck - and that number seems to be steadily growing. That means many of us are a paycheck away from falling into the very safety net that keeps getting attacked. If you’re ready to tackle the injustice that is poverty, then let’s get to work.

A Paycheck Away is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.
